I was born in the great state of Texas but spent most of my growing up years in Oklahoma. I am a graduate of Southern Nazarene University (BA, BS, MA), Nazarene Theological Seminary (MDiv), and Fuller Theological Seminary (DMin).
At NTS I met Jan Sharpes (now Duce), we dated and dated and dated and she finally agreed to become my wife. (I wouldn't recommend going to seminary to look for a spouse - but it worked for me!) We have two terrific children. Laura is a senior at SNU and Samuel is a sophomore at SNU.
Jan and I pastored together in Bowling Green, Ohio and Monroe, Michigan before moving to Colorado Springs to serve as Professors at Nazarene Bible College. In March 2009, I became the lead pastor at Richfield.
I enjoy hiking, skiing, jogging, hanging out with my family, reading, watching movies and playing golf. I subscribe to the Leslie Neilson philosophy of golf: "I don't play golf to feel bad, I play bad golf but feel good."
I am delighted to say that I'm a 3rd generation Nazarene. I'm grateful to my parents and grandmother for their excited, joyous, Spirit-filled lives that taught me to love their Jesus until He became my Savior and Lord. My life mission is to "help people experience the life-changing love of God." I passionately believe that "this generation of Christians is responsible to win this generation to Christ." I believe that a healthy local church is the most power-filled institution on earth. A healthy church filled with holy "contagious Christians" is unstoppable. I love the privilege of serving God and His Church.
